Here is a step-by-step guide to getting coffee stains out of carpet:
What all you need
- Small bowl
- Coldwater
- Dishwashing liquid soap
- White clean cloth or paper towel
- Small bowl
- Hydrogen peroxide (alternative cleaning solution ingredient)
- Ammonia (alternative cleaning solution ingredient)
- Vacuum
Steps to clean coffee-stained carpet
Step 1 – Add cold water
If blotting doesn’t work, the first step you need to do is wet the stained area with cold water. Pour a small amount of cold water, do not over-saturate it.
Step 2 – Blot the water
Dab a clean white cloth on the wet area and blot it dry. Repeat both the steps at least twice or thrice, until the stain vanishes. And remember, just blot, don’t rub or else the stain might spread.
Step 3 – Prepare a cleaning solution
If the above technique, doesn’t work fully, you can go for a cleaning solution. It’s easy, just mix hydrogen peroxide (1 cup) with dishwashing liquid soap (half teaspoon) in a small bowl. Once the solution is prepared, use a sponge or clean cloth, soak it in the solution, and dab it on the stain.
Let the solution get soaked on the portion for at least 5 to 10 minutes. Later use a clean towel or paper napkin to blow away the moisture as well as the stain.
Step 4 – Cleaning solution using ammonia
An alternative cleaning solution, especially if your carpet is made up of wool is using ammonia. You can prepare a cleaning solution by mixing ammonia (one tablespoon ) with a cup of water (one cup).
Dab the solution on the stain with a clean cloth or sponge and then dry it with another dry cloth. This will remove the stain away.
Step 5 – Use vacuum
You can also use a vacuum to dry the cleaning solution. Pour the cleaning solution, leave for over 10 minutes, let it saturate, and then dry the wet area with the vacuum. Repeat until the stain is completely removed.
What if the stain reappears?
The stain may reappear if it is deep or very stubborn. You can make sure the cleaning solution gets more soaked onto the stain by placing a towel on it and some heavy weight on top of the towel. This will allow the cleaning solution to go deep into the stain and make the removal process more effective.
You can also use a carpet stain remover. Just follow the instructions given by the manufacturer and follow the cleaning process. Removing coffee stain is actually incredibly easy. So enjoy your cup of coffee without worrying about the stains.
