Best and Super Easy Ways to Remove Make-up Stains from Carpet

Makeup on the face makes you look beautiful but makeup on the carpet is a nightmare. When you are in a hurry, misfortunes do happen like foundation getting spilled, mascara cap falling on the carpet, nail polish bottle getting tilted, shimmery highlighters highlighting the carpet, or your red liquid lipstick splashes on the beautiful carpet. Makeup on the carpet will definitely make it look bad. 

Carpet is always a known fabric that is difficult to clean, especially if the stains are tough. Fortunately, it’s not true. With little patience and very little effort, the carpet can surely be cleaned. Removing makeup stains can easily be removed.

Below we have listed some of the easiest and safest ways possible to get makeup out of the carpet.  

How to remove lipstick stains from the carpet?

The most commonly used makeup element, lipstick, is probably the most difficult stain to get rid of. But there is an easy DIY technique to remove the greasy lipstick marks from the carpet.

You’ll need

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Clean cloth 
  • Liquid soap or detergent 
  • Water 
  • Cleaning gloves

Method 

  • To avoid the stains from spreading, start scooping the excess lipstick from the carpet. 
  • Now, put on your cleaning gloves. Take the clean cloth and soak it in the rubbing alcohol. Squeeze the cloth to remove the excess.
  • Dab the cloth gently and firmly onto the lipstick stains 
  • Do not rub the stain as it can get spread and cause more mess. Simply dab it.
  • You’ll notice the lipstick stains coming off from the carpet onto the cloth.
  • Continue to dab, until the stain gets lightened from the carpet. 
  • Now blend liquid soap or detergent with water and dab it again on the stained area to remove the rubbing alcohol. 
  • Let the area dry.

Note – If rubbing alcohol is not easily available then you can even use paint remover.

How to remove liquid foundation stain from the carpet

Since the foundation is liquid in nature, it can instantly mess a larger area of the carpet by flowing. So the first thing you need to do is, remove the excess foundation by nicely blotting it with tissue paper. This will avoid additional smudges. 

You can also use a butter knife to scrape the excess foundation when it is freshly spilled to avoid deeper stains.   

Now let’s check the stain removal method:

Technique 1 

You’ll need

  • 3% of hydrogen peroxide 
  • Spray bottle
  • Water
  • Clean cloth 
  • Cleaning gloves

Method 

  • Take the clean cloth and soak it in hydrogen peroxide. Squeeze the excess.
  • Dab the soaked cloth onto the stain. 
  • The foundation will slowly become light. Continue to dab until you notice all the foundation has left the carpet.
  • Now put the water in the spray bottle and sprinkle it on the area. Let the hydrogen peroxide dissolve and leave the carpet.

Technique 2 

There is another easy technique of cleaning the foundation by using ready household items.  

You’ll need

  • Dishwashing liquid soap
  • Coldwater
  • Microfiber cloth or paper napkin
  • Vacuum cleaner

Method 

  • Create a mixture of dishwashing liquid soap and cold water.
  • Gently soak the cloth or paper towel in the mixture and blot the stain (from the outside in). Make sure you do not scrub or rub as this could spread the stains and let it set deep into the fibers.
  • Continue to dab until you notice no foundation stains on the carpet.
  • Now, dampen a clean cloth in plain water and dab it on the area to remove the traces of soapy mixture.
  • Blot the area again with a fresh microfiber cloth to make it dry.
  • Vacuum the spot for better cleaning.

How to remove mascara and eyeliner stains from the carpet

The dark black eye makeup elements can cause a major mess when they get spilled off on the carpet. Don’t worry, even this can be easily removed from the carpet.

You’ll need

Warm water – ½ cup 

Vinegar – 1 teaspoon

Microfiber cloth

Method 

  • Create a blend of vinegar and warm water.
  • Soak the microfiber cloth into the solution and blot it on the stain. Work from the outside in. 
  • Continue to dab until you notice no mascara or eyeliner stains on the carpet.
  • Now, dampen a clean cloth in plain water and dab it on the area to remove the remaining vinegar solution.
  • Blot the spot again with a microfiber cloth to dry. 

Note – You can also use makeup remover instead of vinegar to remove mascara stains from the carpet. 

How to remove eye shadow from the carpet

Most of the eye shadows are oil-based due to which it is challenging to clean the stain. The powdered eye shadow can easily drop off on the carpet. However, this stain can also be effortlessly removed. 

Technique 1 

You’ll need

  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Water
  • Microfiber cloths

Method 

  • Directly pour some drops of hydrogen peroxide on the stain.
  • Spread it gently by dabbing. Do not rub or scrub as this can cause a mess and spoil the carpet. 
  • Let hydrogen peroxide settle for a minute or two.
  • Take a dry microfiber cloth and blot it.
  • Now take another microfiber cloth and soak it in clean water. Dab on the stained area to remove the remaining hydrogen peroxide.
  • Pat the area dry.

Technique 2 

You’ll need

  • Clean water
  • Detergent
  • Clean cloth
  • Vacuum

Method 

  • Blend detergent with clean water and create a lather.
  • Soak the cloth in the mixture and dab it onto the stain. 
  • Continue doing, until the stain is completely removed.

Use the vacuum to dry the carpet area.

Instead of detergent, you can also use shaving foam for cleaning carpet. 

One solution to remove makeup leftovers from the carpet  

  • When you notice the stains, the first thing you need to do is apply just plain lukewarm water on the stain without mixing any detergent, soap, etc.
  • Let the carpet absorb the water. Gently use a damp cloth to dab the area.
  • Blot the excess water with a cloth.
  • Now drizzle potato starch on the wet area and let it settle for at least 24 hours.

This will work wonders. You can notice the stain getting vanished. 

Every method is tried and tested. So be rest assured of the best results. However, in case if you are using any chemicals, make sure to perform a patch test first to save the carpet fiber from negative effects. If you are not happy with the result, you can take professional help.
