It’s the slime, probably every parent would agree to this. It is actually the worst thing ever made for children. It looks like a fun indoor activity for those little ones but when it gets ground to the carpet, it’s no less than a panic attack to the adults. 

You wish you can rule out the slime playing activities from your home but unfortunately, you have to give up the thought just for your child’s happiness. The sticky, messy, nasty slime when gets stuck on carpet or any cloth might drive you crazy. But we suggest you take a deep breath and relax. Every problem has a solution and removing slime from carpet fiber, after all, is not going to be a Herculean task.

Solutions to eliminate the sticky glue/slime of the carpet:  

Ice-cubes

If the spill of slime is fresh and luckily if you’ve noticed instantly then nothing will work better than ice cubes. Just rush to your fridge and get ice-cubes and the further method is explained below.

Method

  • Just apply ice or ice packs in the slime for at least 10 to 15 minutes
  • Let it freeze 
  • The slime can be scraped off quickly 
  • Allow it to dry
  • Vacuum it, that’s it

Hot water 

Sometimes even plain hot water can work wonders when it comes to cleaning. This old-fashioned technique can have some amazing results. Follow the rinsing action by using hot water.

What will you need

A bucket full of hot water

Butter knife

Sponge 

Vacuum 

Dry cloth 

Method 

  • Gently scrape and remove the slime with a butter knife
  • After scraping the larger chunks, use the vacuum to remove the small particles
  • Once the slime is removed, soak the sponge in water and blot the stains
  • The hot water will loosen the remaining slime
  • Let the water settle down for a minute 
  • Now blot the spot again with a dry cloth until the carpet is dried off

Club Soda 

The carbonic acid present in the club soda works as a gentle cleaning agent that easily eradicates the slime from the carpet. If hot water doesn’t work for you, you can experiment with club soda. 

What will you need

Club soda – 3 cups 

Scraping tool

Dry cloth

Spray bottle

Vacuum 

Method 

  • With a scraping tool (make sure it’s blunt), start breaking the slime
  • Vacuum to remove the excess slime
  • Scrape again and vacuum until all the debris are clear
  • Now put club soda in a spray bottle and spray it properly on the stains 
  • Let it settle on the carpet stain for at least 5 minutes
  • Blot the area with a dry cloth 
  • The stain will get vanished from the carpet 

Vinegar and baking soda 

The house cleaning rockstars, vinegar and baking soda make a great pair when it comes to removing tough stains like slime. The acetic acid present in the vinegar kills the grime while the powerful baking soda cleans away all types of stains.

What will you need

Baking soda – 1 cup

White vinegar – 2 cups

Warm water – 1 bucket

Dry cloth

Sponge

Vacuum 

Method 

  • Use a scraper to break large pieces of slime and then vacuum 
  • Repeat the above step to remove all the residue
  • Now sprinkle some baking soda on the stains
  • Put vinegar in a spray bottle and spray it on the stain till the area becomes wet 
  • Let the baking soda react. Let the mixture get settled for at least 5 to 10 minutes on the stain
  • Blot the wet stain with a sponge
  • Take the sponge, wet it in water, and blot the stain
  • Repeat the blotting process until the slime completely gets vanished 
  • Dry the spot with a clean cloth 

Liquid dish soap 

Liquid dishwashing soap is not just to clean dishes and glassware, it is also an effective and incredible carpet cleaning solution. It works on cleaning slime too. 

What will you need

Liquid dishwashing soap – 1 teaspoon 

Warm water – 2 cups

Spray bottle

Clean dry cloth

Sponge

Vacuum 

Method 

  • Remove the large pieces of slime by scraping 
  • Vacuum to remove the excess slime
  • Now mix the liquid soap and water and put it in a spray bottle 
  • Spray it on the slime spots
  • Blot the area with a clean sponge 
  • Rinse and soak the sponge in clean water and again blot the stained area to remove the soapy water
  • Dry it with a clean cloth 

Rubbing alcohol 

Isopropyl alcohol, popularly known as rubbing alcohol, works as a powerful cleaning agent. However, before using it on fabric, it is better to perform a spot test as it can cause damage. Test it on the back of the carpet and use it only if it is safe.

Isopropyl alcohol – 2 cups 

Blunt scraping tool

Sponge 

Vacuum 

Method 

  • Remove the large debris of slime by scraping 
  • Vacuum to remove the excess slime
  • Take undiluted rubbing alcohol and wet the sponge with it
  • Dab it on the stained area 
  • After intervals continue to blot the stain with alcohol
  • Repeat it until you see the stain vanished
  • Let it dry 

Hydrogen peroxide 

Another handy ingredient used for cleaning a wide number of household things like countertops, wood, cloth, Hydrogen peroxide is also effective on the slime. It can easily remove this sticky substance from the carpet.

Hydrogen peroxide – 3 tbsp 

Warm water – ½ cup

Blunt scraping tool 

Spray bottle

Clean dry cloth

Vacuum cleaner

Method 

  • Start scraping large debris of slime from the carpet
  • Vaccum it and remove the excess 
  • Now mix water and hydrogen peroxide in a spray bottle
  • Spray it on the stains 
  • Make it wet and let the mixture settle for a few minutes
  • Now blot the spot with a sponge 
  • Repeat it until you see the stain vanished
  • Use a clean cloth to dry the area
